The Courage To Be Who You Are

Posted on 31st January, 2021

We want others to love and appreciate us for who we are, and not for something we pretend to be. Where to find the courage to be who we really are? For that, we need to dig deep to uncover our inner strength.

We often arrive at a new phase of our life and realize that we are no longer the same person we used to be. So, we continue our journey of healing and learning. No one can love you if do not know the real you.

As I in my book: "if you want to be loved for who you are, you need to be who you are."

Keys to Help You Find Your Courage

Self-awareness - transformation always begins with self-awareness. Take a pause to witness and observe, with no judgment and labeling. Go inward and be the completely still, detached observer of yourself - gather information about yourself, observe your inner dialogue, your fears, your core values, and your motivations. It's a journey that leads to becoming your whole, happiest, healthiest, highest self.

Self-love and Self-compassion - know that you're already gifted, worthy and likable, exactly as you are. You are needed in this world. You came into this world with wonderful gifts to share. So, keep unpeeling the layers of self-protection and ego that keep the real you hidden. It might make you feel vulnerable, but it worth the effort. It is the only way to live your life fully.

Here's one of my favorite quotes: "It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." E.E. Cummings

Pray for Strength and Courage

Being courageous means choosing transformation and go for it step by step, building a life you want to live. Be kind to yourself and let go of what no longer serves you. Fear can often freeze us and stop us from taking the steps we need to take. Pray, ask God for guidance, during spiritual counseling sessions I often recommend the following prayer to my clients: Give me the strength, guide me to find the courage to find who am I.

Courage is tied to fear. Ask yourself: what are my fears, what if I don't do what needs to be done? Will I regret it? If you don't follow your aspirations, the risk is much greater. Where do you find courage? My dear, no one can give it to you. You will have to earn it. When you pray for guidance and courage to follow your dreams you will find that there is a greater power beneath that uplifts you, gives you strength, clarity, and courage. So, yes, sometimes you need to risk everything. Here's another quote that I love:

"If you don't risk anything, you risk even more."
