Shawna Allard: Psychic Featured in the Orange County Register

What's a typical day like?

I begin my day with meditation and yoga to align my body, mind, and spirit to become one. After the morning meditation, I am ready to be a psychic and a healer. It's actually something I do every day whether I'm on the job or not. On the job, I return calls and set appointments with local and international clients. These people call mainly to book appointments for the readings. Most of my readings are done over the phone. Before the psychic appointment or reading, I enter into meditation. Clients can ask questions on any subject or time frame they are curious about. The usual questions I get are related to health, romance, family, career, business investments and important life decisions of past present and future.

Psychic Readings, Hypnotherapy and Healing Sessions

People are concerned that telephone readings aren't as accurate as in person. It is as accurate either way. Local clients find it convenient, but international clients have no choice but to do it over the phone. Some would come to me because they want to experience the session in person.

However, hypnotherapy and healing are done only in person. With hypnotherapy, clients can look into their illness and gain clarity as to why they may be having difficulty healing. For the clients' comfort and safety, I would never hypnotize anybody long distance. In my spare time, I write articles for By The Numbers, a metaphysical magazine in Issaquah, Wash. I also have appeared on the KVMT radio station in Vail, Colo., to do readings. Presently, I am working on getting on a radio station in Orange County.

How many hours a week do you work?
Five to ten hours per week. My hours vary greatly. I set my hours around my family life. I have clients who call me on a regular basis.

How did you get your job? What's your background?
I really didn't choose this kind of work at first. It chose me. Professionally, I started five years ago. Ever since I was a child, I thought everybody could see the pretty lights commonly referred to as "the human aura." By the age of 9, I became aware that not everybody can see what I can. Although I was familiar with intuition since childhood. I had a couple of remarkable experiences as a child and then again as an adult which helped me realize my gifts. I began to know things for others and feel their illness or their pain.

When I became aware of my gifts, I was extremely excited to further my studies and practice. I am a licensed minister. I have a Reiki Masters Degree, which is a form of hands-on healing. I have studied Barbara Brennan's healing method. Brennon is the author of "Hands of Light" and "Light Emerging".

What do you like most about your job?
I like to help people find greater peace, happiness, and prosperity. I enjoy being good at what I do.

What would you change about your job if you could?
Nothing. How can you improve on a job that's heaven-sent?

What's the most amusing or embarrassing thing that's ever happened on the job?
One of my most frequent clients is an old boyfriend who called me regarding his romantic relationship. It's just amusing to do a romantic reading on someone that you used to have a romantic relationship with. I am constantly amazed by how psychic activity works, especially when clients have something told to them that they may think is impossible and later call me to relate the accuracy of the reading. It also amazes me when I witness the healing process.

What advice would you give to someone who wants a job like yours?
I am thankful and blessed to be born with this psychic ability. I believe everyone is born with some gift of intuition. Through the study, it can be cultivated just like playing the violin. Talk to other professionals in the field. Take classes from a reputable teacher. I do offer classes in Orange County.

What's been the biggest hurdle you faced on the job and how did you overcome it?
Getting past my desire for clients to receive answers to what they want rather than the correct information. Through years of practice, I have overcome this desire. Another hurdle is the language barrier with my foreign clients.
